How to find a TikTok account's region

A profile page does not display the country an account is registered in. This guide shows how to look it up from a username or user ID, what the result means, and how much to trust it.

01Look up a region in three steps

  1. Open the User Finder.
  2. Type a username (for example khaby.lame) or a user ID into the search box.
  3. Press Fetch Data. The region appears with the rest of the public profile details.

No account, login, or extension is needed, and nothing is posted to the account you look up.

02What else the lookup shows

Profile basics

Nickname, bio, avatar, and whether the account is private.

Public stats

Followers, following, total likes, and video count.

Account dates

When the account was created, and when the nickname or username last changed.

Permanent user ID

The numeric ID stays the same even if the username changes.

03How accurate the region is

The region is an estimate, not a live location. It reflects the country an account is associated with in public data, which is usually close to where it was set up. Treat it as one signal, not as proof of where someone is right now.

It is worth keeping in mind that:

  • an account that moved country may still show the original region;
  • the result describes the account, not the person holding the phone; and
  • some accounts return no region at all, which simply means the data is not public.

If a result looks wrong, it usually is. Check it against other public details, such as the bio, the language of the captions, or the account dates, before drawing a conclusion.

04Why the user ID matters

Usernames change, and a link saved today can break tomorrow. The numeric user ID never changes, so it is the reliable way to keep a reference to an account.

You can also work the other way around: the URL Tracker reads the user ID, video ID, and timestamp contained in a shared short link, and the User Tracker watches a profile for username, nickname, and avatar changes over time.

05Common questions

Does the account owner know I looked them up?

No. The lookup only reads public information. Nothing is posted, sent, or shown on their profile.

Can I look up a private account?

Only the public parts of it, such as the nickname and avatar. Content from private accounts cannot be viewed.

Why is a region missing?

Some accounts do not expose a region in public data. That is normal, and it is not an error in the tool.

Is there a limit on lookups?

The web tools are free with fair-use limits. For automated or high-volume use, there is a developer API.
